Unidentified armed men abducted six Indians and one Afghan employee of an Indian infrastructure company in Afghanistan’s Baghlan province today, a media report said.

Six Indians were among seven people abducted by unidentified armed men from Baghlan province in Afghanistan on Sunday morning, it was confirmed by the authorities here.
Those abducted were employees of KEC International Ltd, an infrastructure company which recently bagged a Rs 226-crore contract in the war-torn country.
According to local officials, the incident occurred while they were travelling in the area, where the company owns an electricity sub-station contract.

Local authorities are linking the abduction to the Taliban. However, the militant outfit is yet to take responsibility. The area falls in the northern part of the country.
Reacting to the development, MEA spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said New Delhi was in contact with the Afghan authorities over the development. “We are aware of the abduction of Indian nationals from Baghlan province in Afghanistan. We are in contact with the Afghan authorities and further details are being ascertained.”
KEC is one of the largest Indian companies in Afghanistan that is responsible for electricity supply in the country, the report said.
